Hello all,
I'm relatively new to the Genesis, but just discovered that the EXT port on the model 1 was meant for networking. I'm a networking student, and really love to make things talk. I want to make the Genesis talk to another Genesis.
Right now I have two Gen1 consoles, all stock. What is needed to make a cable to directly connect two consoles together? Is it a straight cable? Any kind of crossing of wires needed?
Also, I want to use basiegaxorz to write a few test programs. I haven't fired it up yet, but am hopeful.
Any helpful hints? Specifically about the EXT port on the gen1.
is the second port on the Model 2's wired to take the place of the EXT port?
Any help appreciated!
Nathan

Do you have the so famous Sega2f.doc or the Genesis Software Manual.pdf?
They're the same documents except that the pdf is scanned and the doc is a OCR of the original document.
On the PDF version, you will find on pages 72, 73, 74 and 75 detailed information on how IO ports work and all the registers and addresses you have to read/write to get the COM port working, as well as the wiring information.
Seeya!

there is a way to interface the internet (via ethernet) through a joystick port. i have microchip's spi ethernet interface ENC28J60 in mind . i can make myself one for only make one for a couple of dollars, haha, but making the software for it would be a long task. in addition, i'd have to use a flash cartridge

CD is as good as OTP EPROM cart... aka useless (unless you have a final version burned...)

parallel flash memory is much better, and is reprogrammable, and it doesn't take a lot of logic to interface (compared to IDE and cd rom technologies)
