The Mark III doesn't have a Yamaha YM2413 built-in, but the Japanese Master System does. You could get the FM Sound Unit extension for the Mark III though.

there is another difference: Master System has a checksum verifier in its bios (16 bytes written between 0x1FF0..0x1FFF, 0x3FF0..0x3FFF or 0x7FF0..0x7FFF ), when Mark-III has no bios at all - that is probably the reason why you might, out of the box, be able to run sg-1000 (Mark-I and Mark-II) cartridges on Mark-III and not on Master System (unless you’re opening sg-1000 Mark-I or Mark-II rom files into EverDrive, which comes with its checksum)
