I'm attempting to use the 32X to its full potential and am not particularly interested in BasiRomEgaHaXorz. (No offense, especially since I made a somewhat similar, though not BASIC language oriented, product myself for GBA a couple years back.) So I'm down with the low-level programming and everything. Right now I'm just interested in getting the thing to boot and to do a little testing with the 32X VDP from the SH2 side. (Since, classically, the slave SH2 does all the video work anyway.)
I have a Tototek 64M flash cart and all that. The things I've been writing are following the famous pitfall -- works fine on emulator, doesn't work right on hardware.
I've been borrowing from the leaked 32X dev kit and trying to figure out their different bits of code. So far, though, all I've achieved is a program that has the 68K audiablly outputting noise through the old PSG channel and a blank screen. After a few seconds -- seems different every time -- even that stops suddenly.
I'm not too worried about fixing my existing code since it's nothing but prototyping, but I would like one of the following:
1) Actual source to at least one of Devster's graphical tests... I didn't see any source code postings besides the one with the BEX file. I assume he doesn't want to share them directly for some reason?
2) A very clear list of instructions on what exactly is supposed to happen on boot up after the SH2 security code. In some of Devster's "works on hardware" demos, he'll even go so far as to just throw the 68K into an internal loop immediately after the security, so I guess it has nothing to do with bootup past that point? On the flip side, all the 32X demo code for the master SH2 features a huge list of weird looking ops into internal regs?
3) If all else fails and someone wants to look at what I'm trying to do, I'll be glad to ZIP the mess I've made and you can check it out.
I hope someone can point me in the right direction...
