So, here is a recent build of my run-and-jump engine. Collision is currently only at the players feet so you can scroll into walls. A button to jump. These are placeholder graphics until I get sprite animation working. Moon noticed the engine seemed to chug last time. How does it feel so far guys? Attachments:

Not to be blunt, but this is pretty horrible Feels like a ATARI 2600 title gone wrong. Are you aiming for something like this?

That game looks awesome! I was aiming for Super Pitfall actually. Specifically porting this demake to the Genesis: forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=2398.0Please be blunt! What are the specific points of lameness? Is the gravity too off?

Never mind then. That Super Pitfall game feels just as horrible Also, when I press jump I do hear a sound effect, but nothing happens. Anyway, this is design territory .. there is no right & wrong, just preference.

Well, if it compares "favorably" with the actual and demake version of Super Pitfall then I must be on the right track. The one point of feedback I've gotten was that gravity should slightly accelerate when falling. I don't think Super Pitfall did this but if it "feels" better.. Was worried about the jump arc as well but so far no comments either way.

Wooo Super Bat Puncher Awesome game that I cannot wait to get finished. I haven't tried the latest download up there, but gravity is normally faster on the way down like you mentioned, though I believe games like Super Mario Bros don't do that, so it's not exactly a must by any means, but if you want to go for as many fine details as you can, then go ahead and add it in.

What are the specific points of lameness? Is the gravity too off? Did you see those links I posted over at Sega-16 for Super Pitfall? You might as well just use the NES sprites and tiles. As to what you posted. It's pretty "rudimentary" - the main sprite not being animated is probably the biggest problem right now. You need walk and jump cycles. Single color sprites are also hard to get away with these days unless you are trying to remake a REALLY old game.

I think he already pointed out everything is placeholder just for engine testing, so I wouldn't hold the presentation of the game against him
