Finally i can run Doom with no slowdowns! Oh, wait... this is not a 32X... But a console based on this thingie would be pretty cool. Now, what videochip should we slap there?

a cheapo 486 sbc could also run doom really easy too you can get a scan converter to connect the 486 to a tv monitor, and you have yourself a 486 game console lol

Maybe they're trying to get into the handheld market. Look at the competition so far:
GP2X: two 200MHz ARM cores PSP: two MIPS cores (222MHz default speed, 333MHz max) NDS: two ARM cores (66Mhz and 33MHz)
Seems that dual core is the way to go on handhelds. ;D

Renesas Semiconductor already has a SH7780 (SH4) that runs in excess of 600 MHz.

This reminds me of a cool SOC Renesas anounced some time ago (part# SH3707). Basically, it's a DC with about twice the power: - SH-4 clocked at 300 MHz - PowerVR MBX - 8 channels PCM/ADPCM audio (not quite the AICA ) - h/w decompression of MPEG-1,2,4 Sega actually built a cheapo arcade board dubbed Aurora (http://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=732) based on this chip. Back when the anouncement was made in 2005, I remember I strongly hoped that they would turn this into a portable console. Unfortunately, things didn't quite turn out that way...
