okay, i think these boards are getting waaay too unorganized, and noobs are having trouble with finding answers to their simple questions quickly. to fix this, i've decided to make an faq devster.retrodev.com/sega/basiegaxorz/faq.htmlif anyone thinks that the FAQ is missing a frequently asked question, then post it here =P

True and false. VB5/6 apps does not run under Win32s, but most of these should run under Win95. As for BEX, it works perfectly under Win95. The only issue is that i needed to install MSCOMCTL.OCX... not included with my installer (don't worry, an update should be available soon with this nasty OCX). Here are some screenshots: Compiling and running a single "Print foo"Compiling latest CrazyBus sourcesRunning CrazyBus (using the copy compiled right there)BTW: That machine has VB6SP5 runtimes, IE5.5 and Winsock 2 update. VB6 runtimes can work under a 486 (well, Win98 requires a 486DX4 to load their crappy IE shell...), not sure if they will work on a 80386... Also think on opening the sources of BEX... since open soft guys will make your life impossible if you made "privative programs" as they call to all closed source projects (even freeware). Just try to put an article about BEX here, and a bunch of gay spanish guys, penguin-lovers will make you to go crazy with their "anti-privative-soft" comments. But beware with this thing of €uro software patents, you should avoid to release BEX to €uro guys.... since they are very nasty about the patents thing. And too lazy to code in a "privative sofware piece" too ;D

The only issue is that i needed to install MSCOMCTL.OCX... not included with my installer (don't worry, an update should be available soon with this nasty OCX). wow, i didn't know it could run under windows 95 =P. i tried running it on windows 95 before, and it keeps giving me activex errors, while all ocx's were there, and everything was registered. you gotta give me instructions on how you got it to run on win95 because lots of people have asked me this =D the older versions prior to 0.08 all ran on win95 no problem, so i assumed that anything above this version didn't run because of the cmcs21.ocx btw, you don't need mscomctl.ocx in this next version of basiegaxorz since the toolbar will be different now. only external ocx needed will be cmcs21.ocx (cuts down on your installer size =D) it should work, but i wouldn't dare since the fastest 386 was 40mhz, and instructions don't execute as fast as a 486, and cache sizes were smaller waait one sec........... how can it take 20 seconds to compile that =P the longest a source code has ever compiled for me is in 3 seconds, and that's with 500 lines of code on a 1.2ghz machine =D. in v0.12 i stopped buffering every line of assembly code that is output, which sped things up by like 20 times also, running gens in the background with a rom playing slows compilation time down by 10 times, i've noticed

Try compiling into a emulator ;D
Anyway, Gens runs quite fast inside Virtual PC. But my Celeron 700 has not enough horsepower for smooth PC emulation. Maybe with your 1.2GHz....

More details about BEX and "lowbudget" machines:
Under Win95, BEX requires... -the VB6 runtimes -the OCX (use my installer, and for MSCOMCTL.OCX, there is a update in M$ site) -MSVCRT.DLL (install Office 97, IE4, PSP4... they drop this library, required by cmc21s.ocx. Also, i've seen in the past a standalone installer that install these libraries in your system)
There are NO WAY to run VB4(32)/5/6 apps under Windows 3.x (even with Win32s), so BEX will never on your good ol' Windoze.
Windows 98 requires a 486DX4-75 with 16M of RAM to run. On the other side, Windows 95 works in a 386SX-33 with 4M of RAM. BEX can run in both boxes if you have installed the required dependencies. So, BEX works in a 386!

My anti-virus found a virus in your setup (0.21). Sorry for my bad english.

Mine too. Some antivirus wrongly identify packed SFX modules (like the WinRAR-based one used in BEX installer) as viruses. Just unRAR the installer SFX and do the install. Also, update your AV program.
