Yes, it is. Not as faithful as I wanted it to be, but still recognizable

Good progress, bonaf! It's very good to select different characters of Master System games. Some suggestions for fighters of your game:
Alladin - "Alladin" Centurion as wolf, bear or tiger - "Altered Beast" Asterix and Obelix - "Asterix" Battletoads - "Battletoads in Battlemaniacs" Riki - "Black Belt" Chapolin - "Chapolin vs. Dracula", brazilian official port of "Ghost House" Billy Lee - "Double Dragon" Bin - "Dynamite Dux" Tarik - "Golden Axe" Indiana Jones - "Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade" "Samurai" - "Kenseiden" Krusty - "Krusty's Fun House" Donald Duck - "The Lucky Dime Caper" Michael Jackson - "Moonwalker" Mônica - "Mônica no Castelo do Dragão", brazilian official port of "Wonder Boy in Monster Land" Lots of characters - "Mortal Kombat" Alis - "Phantasy Star" Rocky, Apollo, Clubber and Drago - "Rocky" Joe Musashi - "Shinobi" or "Shadow Dancer" Spider-Man - "Spider-Man" Adam, Axel and Blaze - "Streets Of Rage" Hiryu - "Strider" Taz - "Taz-Mania" Vigilante - "Vigilante"

Thanks for the comments !
As for the character selection, I think I'll focus on smaller, sega-exclusive characters, so count on Joe Musashi sure, JJ from Zillion, Sonic, and perhaps the guys from Ghost House or Teddy Boy (I' don't think I'll do the characters from the brazilian ports, as an euro gamer they don't appeal much to me).
I'll see later for characters with bigger sprites (Tarik, Centurion, Adam/Axel/Blaze) because they need more work to add, because my game engine was built for 32*32 pixels characters (i.e. the biggest possible sprite size for the megadrive, so bigger characters need multiple sprites) at most.
EDIT : BTW I have a question for knowledgeable guys here. Do you know any ways to recreate the musics from the original Master System games using BEX ? So far I tried two methods with poor results : - play a PCM sample of the original music. Quick and sounds nice enough, but takes a huge amount of space and I'd like my ROM to be as small as possible so it stays easy to put my game on a real cartridge. - reproduce the original music using BEX PSG commands. Time consuming and with mixed results. I tried with Alex Kidd music, recognizable but it could be much better.
Any ideas/suggestions ? Thanks in advance !

Do you know any ways to recreate the musics from the original Master System games using BEX? Mod2PSG2 seems like the obvious choice .. although i don't think there is a player written in BASIC available, so you'd have to use the Z80 or 68K player ( or write your own in BASIC ).

Thanks ! Not sure how I can include the player into BEX as it is... lots of technical stuff I've got no idea how to handle. I guess I'll have to learn some assembly, or find another way. I saw a player for Echo was written for BEX, but then the problem would be to make the music files for Echo... So to sum it up, no easy way, I'll have to work

Attached is a quick & dirty SN76489-only VGM player ( in BASIC, no inline assembly nor peek / poke ). It supports uncompressed VGM 1.5 ( and older ), so files are ( typically ) bigger than .ESPG2MOD files .. but this only took 10 minutes* to write, and VGM files from your favorite Master System games are readily available online *While a PSG2MOD2 player in BEX would probably take a bit more time. (...) but this only took 10 minutes* to write... That's because you know what you're doing, even reading your code, I have no idea what this is all about, but I'm still learning Thanks a lot BTW, this will be really useful !

I've already integrated your most recent code into the game, and it works like a charm ! Different music for different arenas, no problem, even with successive fights in differents arenas.
Only minor problem, my sound effects interfere with the music, so I had to discard them. I guess I'll have to use the Yamaha 2612 for sound effects then ?
I say it again : thanks a lot ! You won't mind if I name you in the credits of my game ?
