I once saw a SCSI to CF adaptor that could be used with old ISA SCSI cards... But it was one of those "only happens once ever" eBay items! ...wish I had picked it up! There is such a thing as a parallel-port CF reader/writer. I've personally seen them in stores myself, and I wish I had bought one too. Also, Minolta and some other manufacturers made a cool SCSI device that lets you use PC Cards (PCMCIA I think). That means you could attach a CF PC Card (or SD card or whatever other device you want) to a SCSI machine. I think it even supports hot-swapping. Here's a thread at another forum about it: www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=13594&p=115207&hilit=minolta#p115207It pertains to using it on an Atari but the same device should work on anything with SCSI and the correct connections.

Nice finding... i haven't found something new for my boxes, yet (except tons of dust, but that's free ;D) Military surplus? Then you may be paying the "de-classified tax". Unfortunately, that info is classified

Hahaha! LOL! ;D ;D BTW - the only thing I'm a bit worried about is that SM reader parallel port version I snagged is SOOOO OLD... ...WHERE do I get drivers for Winblows... (Tried the manufacturers homepage - no longer supported!) EDIT - seem to have found something on DriverGuide.com... ...won't know if the drivers work till the item arrives from the U.S.A.

Nice find paulpsomiadis. I hope it works for you! Here are some very nice external parallel port drive enclosures I found: www.weirdstuff.com/cgi-bin/category/REM000Right now they only seem to have ones that are made for CD drives but they usually offer ones for HDs too. They accept IDE drives so I'm pretty sure you could just use one of these (or the guts from one of these) plus an IDE-CF or IDE-SD adaptor and you would have a nice external card reader/writer. Maybe not with hot-swap though... I was at a "Value Village" store recently and saw an external parallel-port HP CD writer. I really wanted to buy it and it was only $6 but it was in really really bad shape It had bad cracks in the case, it was dirty, and the drive tray was all loose. It might of worked but I didn't bother. Knowing HP the drivers probably would have been mega-bloatware.

So, the SM card reader arrived and I need a 5V PSU to power it.
THAT one I can take care of...so what's the problem?
It uses some kind of micro 26 pin Parallel port connectors I've NEVER seen before!
You can see that these are TINY if you look at the original auction...
Measurements: Approx 18mm (1.2") long and 2mm (0.2") high for the socket...
I'll try to get a better picture up for you guys later on...

I tried google image searching "EPP cable" and "Enhanced printer cable" but couldn't find a pic. Wait, is this it maybe: www.computerplug.com/show_product.php?product_id=C1284AC06

Yeah, the ones I posted didn't even have the right amount of pins I have seen that connector before however. Last week, at an electronics recycling depot, there was a weird metal device made by "Sharp" that had some proprietary connector on its cable, and on the box was one of those slimline centronics-style connectors you posted. I have no clue what it was for. Good luck getting that cable though. It will be tough for sure.

Well, unless there'a an EARTH SHATTERING miracle... Price per cable (from that wholesaler I talked about in my last post) £3.16 ...not bad, until you discover... Minimum quantity order: 200 Overall price: £632 WTF! No thanks...

LOL! You should have read one of my previous posts...
It has a link to the PDF files that show what the socket looks like.
BTW - your picture is of a SCSI connector. (too many pins and too large)
Anyhow - what I'm going to have to do is to figure out the pinout and make some "custom" leads...

NEWSBREAK! Time to revive this thread... I have been very busy lately with some other stuff (anime, Puyo Puyo on N64, Megaupload Premium, fighting with my ISP/telephone provider to fix my broken line since the last 3 weeks...), but it's time for a updae. - Marika is fine... those OLD PCs somehow still works despite the excess of dust. Still waiting for that SCSI pin adapter - Saki will get a 250 gig HD soon It will be a Hitachi Deskstar P7K500 IDE (from the same Chinese factory that also make the Excelstor-branded Deskstars). Unfortunately, due to Hurricane Ike, shipping was delayed (i expected to have the drive right now, but it was not possible). Expect some news after October 15th. Now the question: will an ancient Pentium box work with this HUGE drive? I already know that the 32-gig jumper will be needed there, but i still have some doubts about the LBA48 stuff on this old Intel chipset (PIIX3). - And that was all for this update. Now, back to school, again

Now, back to school, again If the chipset was mode before 1995 then it probably has the INT13h problem where it can't see drives over 8 GB. Anything between 1995 and 1998 are dicey. They could have the problem and they may not, it just depends.

I have a 40 gig drive there that works by using the 32GB jumper. BIOS sees it as a 32GB drive, but Linux "detects" the remaining space as a "host protected area", and then unlocks it, allowing me to use the complete drive space.
But that's only LBA-28. If the chipset does LBA-48, Linux will also do LBA-48. Unfortunately, i can't find any info about LBA-48 on i430VX southbridges (Intel datasheets say nothing about LBA, not even about LBA-28, and Google was useless).
Anyway, the USB-to-IDE adapter is there, should the drive fail to work... but it will be awfully slow, since VX' USB is only 1.1. Only when i have the drive in my hands i will confirm if it works or not.
