1) Get a human brain. A working one will do.
2) Read The Fine Manual(tm). Print it and take it to your next field trip or visit to W.C. It's a really neat lecture, so don't miss it!
3) BasiEgaXorz is for SEGA(tm) Genesis/MegaDrive(tm), not for Atari(tm) consoles. Compatibility with Atari BASIC is not even mentioned and/or present at all.
4) "Emulator" is not included, may be sold separately.

acc62 - You need to "tell" BasiEgaXorz where your Megadrive / Genesis emulator is located ( Tools > Options > Paths > Emulator Path ). Anyway, you can find a ATARI 2600 BASIC compiler here. @tom - We've all been young & naive

Note to myself: get a A2600 emulator for the Genesis - if Yuji Naka did a NES emulator for the Genesis, why not the 2600? Anyway, reading and using the brain is the path to the enlightment for when we were young and naive. Common sense for the overly basic things, that is Then, when we're in the correct road, it's time to go with the community for the serious business My intention is not to be rude (i was a n00b too, and i'm still are in a lot of things), but i'm afraid that the user here has a elementary confusion that needs to be cleared, otherwise, he would be in a dead end. Once you're clear what you want to do (code games for the Genesis or the Atari?), you should read more carefully, so you can pick the right tool and start coding cool games without nasty headaches. Organize your ideas, then research, and then... DO IT! ;D

Your compiled program gets compiled into a file called BASIC.BIN by default. The BASIC.BIN file is basically the data that is stored in game cartridges. All you have to do is open up your favorite emulator, and then load this file. You do have a Sega Genesis emulator, right? An emulator does not come with the compiler Don't use the "emulator" button yet, just load up your ROM file manually Naive? Not yet lol. Believe me, once acc62 gets the compiler going, and he can see his "Hello World" stuff, he'll be asking many many more questions

Shouldn't this be posted in the BasiEgaXorz forum?
What about a Chip-8 interpreter for Basic, it was done on ASM for the Master System, so why not in BEX BASIC for MD?

If you set up an Atari emulator, you can just run Atari BASIC. I always preferred Atari BASIC to that crappy MS BASIC.

Just because it says Basic, or C, or Java, doesn't mean it's exactly the same on each Processor, platform or with different compilers. Most programming books I've worked with were kind of an outline that showed you the language, what syntax to use, and didn't dive into specifics that are needed on each platform. So in theory, this doesn't mean that the Atari book is totally useless, because as you move along if you understand the Atari book and the Basic language as presented here, you should be able to translate simpler programs. That and the Paradigms are probably the same as they're most likely using the same programming style. There should be some free resources on the more popular renditions of basic, which would probably help you a bit more than the Atari Basic book.. (as it's probably very old, just don't get a Visual Basic book.. Ick!) ;D www.programmersheaven.com is a great place to start for free resources. There are some days I think you strive to show us all how really old you are! lol

There are some days I think you strive to show us all how really old you are! lol If it helps, the first computer class I took in high school used brand-new, state-of-the-art, TRaSh-80 Model 3s. I bought my own Atari 400 shortly after that. Still have that old computer, too.

hahahaha.. That's hilarious. Did you upgrade the 400 to the 800 specs? (I heard there was a way to solder the extra banks for memory, wasn't the CPU/GPU the same for the 400/800?)
What do you think of the "mesh" keyboard?
Did you ever get into the Speccy or the c64?

I wish those days were around again... Yeah every and their mother would have an incompatible computer with each other, but the good thing would be that at least Radio Shack would have something OTHER than cell phones.

What do you think of the "mesh" keyboard? Did you ever get into the Speccy or the c64? I originally just had the 32K expansion board for the 400, along with the cassette. As I saved up money, I bought (in order) the full-stroke keyboard replacement, a Percom DD disk drive, and the Mosaic 64K expansion. The 32K expansion didn't need any soldering - the 64K did... just a few lines for the extra memory. The regular keyboard was lousy for real typing, which is why it was the first thing to get replaced. I got a C64 many years later (used) for $5. I went from the Atari straight to an Amiga 500. I'd never even heard of the Spectrum until a couple decades later.
