Following up on this thread....... (last post was March, now it's May ) I fixed a bug in the LAKABAJO uploader that fixes the startup stuff. So socram8888, if you're still keeping track after 2 months , a new executable is at devster.monkeeh.com/pub/lakabajo.exeAlso compiled with the latest and greatest GCC version available for MINGW Tomorrow I will switch my Genesis to PAL mode and test some stuff out

SHIT THE LAKABAJO PAGE IS 404'd And i'm just about to buy that GameGenie sucker... (that same ol' GG from MLV is still there, waiting for me, but slightly cheaper). But without the schematics for the patent-pending LAKABAJO cable(tm)...

Yeah, it is down since long time ago (last year's august?), but don't worry since not all is lost: www.fileden.com/files/2007/11/30/1616239//LKBJ.zipThere, is a copy of the PDF who contains the schematics for making the LAKABAJO, plus 2 PDFs of the two ICs (isn't really necessary to have them, but...). Two pictures of mine taken with my W5's blurry cam: (I know isn't really noticeable, but a Sonic's contour and the 'LAKABAJO' word written in SEGA's font are present in this picture...) (... and here says 'Mairtrus' at the middle left cupper's block) Remember that all what you need is 2 0.1uF capacitors and the 2 ICs. If anyone is interested, I have the schematic converted to a PCB Wizard's file.

I dunno what happened, but some of my stuff was deleted . I will reupload tonight. Sorry for the absence. Tom: You should go negotiate that Game Genie for a lower price . Say you can get it $2 cheaper on ebay

Will a 2 meter cable work? That's the measured distance between my development laptop with parport (this old HP, P4M-2.8G) and my Genesis (Model 1-VA6)... and i can't bring them more together Also i don't have a controller cable available (and i'm not going to buy a brand new controller just to rip apart that cable) - will a standard DB-9 female plug work there? I know that the depth is not the same, but as long as it makes a good contact... (or i could simply hack my Genesis and solder a spare COM plug extension directly over Port 2 pads - i have like a gazillon of these ). My only "vulnerable" game is Sonic 1 - i suppose that mine is REV00, as it's the original "NOT FOR RESALE" cart (damn Gamebits!) EDIT: Here is another $1000000 idea: build the LAKABAJO adapter INSIDE the Genesis, then link with a really long LPT cable or a custom cable or something... What about it? Seriously, i don't like the idea of a dongle in mah parport

Seriously, i don't like the idea of a dongle in mah parport I don't know if a 2 meter cable will work. It might work intermitently for a little bit , but there's no guarantee, since it's so long, and will almost act like an antenna. I think it will work. The regular dsub9 connectors don't fit into the controller socket because the casing is blocking the way. Maybe you can saw off some of your casing? If you build the LAKABAJO inside your Genesis, you will have to hard-wire it into controller port 2, so you will never be able to use that port ever again . Another possibility is adding support for controller port 3, which is on the back of Model 1 Genesis. A dsub9 connector doesn't fit on the back connector as well, but you can build the LAKABAJO inside. I have to modify the Game Genie codes, and do some tests to do the support for controller 3 So you bought the Game Genie ?

Not yet, but i will buy it this weekend, then buy the ICs and parts on the same trip to the bank I'm used to RF interferences, but there is enough aluminium foil at home, i think. Or you can always hack a cable with STP Ethernet wire (which is not cheap, but whatever ) I'm alone with my Genesis, so i don't care giving up on port 2 (i also have only one pad ). But the rear port looks like a nice idea (would need to relocate my region switches, but no big deal). Litte question though: my VA6 motherboard came without that port installed - just the solder pads, and as you know there are some thingies installed just after the port that are also missing on that spot on my motherboard - should i ever require to install that port, which components should go there? And, oh, i'm planning to do my LAKABAJO stuff with BEX, so don't forget updating it if required!

That's the measured distance between my development laptop with parport (this old HP, P4M-2.8G) and my Genesis (Model 1-VA6)... and i can't bring them more together I'm the living proof that it will work. My LAKABAJO(why always in upper-case?) has a 2 meters cable, and it works like a charm in my 3.6 GHz PC, but sometimes the uploader hangs in my 800MHz PC(I blame the procesor's speed, no the cable). My only "vulnerable" game is Sonic 1 - i suppose that mine is REV00, as it's the original "NOT FOR RESALE" cart (damn Gamebits!) I run it with my Sonic 2 cart in my CrappyClone(R) PAL JAP Model 1. My Sonic 1 cart is a crappy chinese copy who doesn't have the word SEGA no where, so the SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEGA screen never executes. Hope you have better luck than me. And, oh, i'm planning to do my LAKABAJO stuff with BEX, so don't forget updating it if required! If you don't care about the interrupts, the BEX code will works EXACTLY like in emulators...

Allright, i'm still thinking on some ideas to make my LAKABAJO board... it will be internal, and use some parallel port extension cable - this way, my Genesis will feature a external DB25 port. Some printer cables and PC port expansion brackets may be harmed in the name of science (The idea is make the thing detachable too, for ease of servicing, so pin headers will be there too) Lame question: Has anyone bothered to try this with an USB<->parport adapter?

Regarding cable lenghts... I use a 4 meter long LPT cable going form my PC to my MD and it works fine, I get nice 40KB/sec transfer rates and no errors ^^

Stupid $1.000.000 idea #3: Combine LAKABAJO with a cheap homemade flashcart (like in "replace your MaskROM with a Flash IC or something on your Sonic cart"), and some in-console cart flasher: - Make homebrew barebones flashcart - Use LAKABAJO + [vulnerable game] to upload and run the console-side flasher - Hotswap the bootcart with the flashcart, then "Press any button to flash" - Have some custom PC app for doing the actual ROM flashing (sort of MoD's Transfer Suite-alike) No need for not-so-cheap Hong Kong or soviet carts Or would i require more and more hardware for this? As for my adapter: i've already won the bid for that GG, so hopefully i will have it on my hands for Wednesday, and in the meanwhile i'm using my non-existant EE designer abilities to design the adapter - it will be internal, with pin-header detachable connectors, and a external DB25 port for attaching a straight LPT 2-meter cable

Maybe... That thing looks sweet, since pretty much noone mess up with the expansion port these days. At the very least, something like Transfer Suite, but with the GG/LAKABAJO instead of the SCD would expand greatly the functionality of this gizmo (ROM dumping would be very nice, for "legalize my ROMz" )
