How about if BasiEgaXorz had a Super NES counterpart? How interesting would it be?
Of course, you could take all the existing BasiEgaXorz instructions, and convert their code to their SNES counterparts. You could also include things like "Mode 7," which is used for graphics, and lots of other neat things, too.
It really would be quite interesting if you could do something like this.

the snes is a very nice system to homebrew with . i especially like the 65c816 processor. the 68000 is nice too, i like them equally. i started developing for the sega genesis, and created a website for my work because there wasn't a lot of homebrew going on for the sega genesis originally. we originally had the sgcc compiler to play with, and the gens and eidolons inn boards for support . basiegaxorz was started because a bunch of people on the gens irc channel were talking about beer and the ym2612 lfo registers and getting more people into the sega genesis dev scene . so as you can see, basiegaxorz was never meant to be very professional , just a quick and dirty way to quickly create sega genesis games, and learn a little bit about the hardware, and then move onto the c language. i still continue to support the compiler because people are actually using it, and some like it there is no snes counterpart because i've never really seen an snes community around . i've never been able to find snes development communities. if i search for sega genesis communities, i get sites like fonzie's, kaneda's, hardoloop's, and pascal's site. basiegaxorz would be the same anyways - you would be able to do your usual "hello world" programs and simple arcade games . the advanced stuff is just too advanced for a basic on a simple machine.

So, why not a GBA or NDS counterpart of BasiEgaXorz? You said that there is no snes development communities, but there is a bunch of sites where you can learn to develop for the GBA. I hate the C/C++, so just imagine "GBA-C+Basic=WIN!!"

Hmm... a BasiIntendoXorz for SNES or GBA sounds pretty cool. I've been trying to get into SNES programming but the biggest obstacles are the strange, 64KB at a time memory map and strange VRAM design (I could also say sound, but you could actually load a .SPC file into the Audio RAM ). However, I am not giving up. Mode 7 would be hard to do in Basic for SNES, because it requires changes in the transformation matrix registers every scanline, and could use up a lot of CPU, DMA'd or otherwise. I mostly like BEX because it makes it easier and faster to make simple tests on Genesis hardware. A Hello World could take hours in assembly, while it takes less than a minute in BEX. Also, it supports Sega CD programs, so a small BEX program could be run on a real Genesis without buying a $100 cartridge from a shady website with machine translations in Engrish .

It sounds like the BasiEgaXorz creator has 2 requirements for creating a dev tool:
1. Has to be a console with not much activity or pre-existing tools. 2. Has to have at least some active community.
Genesis homebrew dev obviously fit this category. SNES fits rule 1 but has no/little dev community. GBA would be awesome as DragonBASIC has died. But it already has a large amount of existing dev tools.
The great Master Oompa Loompa probably is working on a Coleco BASIC given the imaginary rules above.. TurBasiCoXorz?!?

Uhm.... how akward, you read my mind Yes, that's pretty much has been my goal since 2003. I definitely try to bring up old consoles that have a dead development/homebrew community, and get more people involved by making newbie tools . Well, I haven't been proactive lately (my main site hasn't been updated for how long?), but I'm still around . One more piece of criteria for developing on a console is the ease of getting things to run on real hardware without resorting to expensive flash carts or expensive mod chips The Genesis dev community was really really dead when I started (we use to post on SeF and be on IRC 24/7). At least, I saw dedicated SNES communities before. I think most of the central sites for the SNES have shut down though For the Colecovision..... I have actually built a clone of a ColecoVision. I have not posted pictures of it here because it seems that my TMS9118 is shot (can only get black and white video out - I originally thought it was a major impedance match problem creating lots of reflection). I might have to set one bit in a mode register because there are some differences from the TMS9928, but I have gotten it to play games anyways . I did the clone like 2 years ago, so I don't know when I'll get a page up on it. I'm using controllers from the Jaguar console instead of those ugly bar joysticks Oh BTW, please don't reply to anymore 6+ month old threads. Just start a new topic and share your thoughts from there
