I guess my question is "Is there a way to get it to work with more games?".
Maybe use a modified Sonic and Knuckles cartridge to try and get some of the processing done to take the load off of the Genesis somehow?

That pirate seems to lacks the Z80. Is there a way to add a sort of "z80 coprocessor board"? (AKA z80 cart)

I dunno, but I thought the Z80 only did sound and Master System compatability....
Also, Ben found that the Radica can play 2MB ROMs, and it may be a locking system that stops the Sonic 3 cart from working alone.

I seriously doubt that it lacks a Z80 or the compatibility would most likely be much lower than Ben is reporting... the Z80 is used by many games as a timer chip, try running a few games in an emulator with Z80 support disabled and you'll see what I mean (games crahing, no sound in others and various other weirdness).

Exactly! It lacks th Z80, so most games will not run

I'm not so sure about that. They had to find a way around it for the genesis 3, or it would not have even had enough compatibility to produce without a conviction of fraud. ^^ Also, Ben has found that the Radica supports 4MB games, and just has issues with region protection. benheck.com/ipw-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=1280&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0If you happen to use a Game Genie, it might just work quite well....

that diagram doesnt make any sense. the 68000 in the genesis does not have that many address or data buses.
the model 3 genesis does not have a zylog and i read an article that said older games that required the z80 would not work on it. or at least have no sound.
if you disable the zylog when you have a genesis game in the psg and the yamaha start going nuts

very cool that they finally modded the radica 10 in 1 =D
lots of people are believing that the radica doesn't have a z80, or that it doesn't have enough address lines. the pin connector provided is wrong too, there is no such thing as an address bit 0 on the 68k =P, its actually bit 1. region detection does exist too. all the region protection is a just a data bit that says if the system was made for games marketed off-seas (use), or for japan. i think the problem here is a timing problem. someone that has a modded radica needs to observe how the address line are being acessed. like if the game stays in a constant loop, most of the higher address lines would stay constant, and then we can pinpoint which portion of that rom is looping forever

paulpsomiadis has discovered something interesting with his modded UK (PAL) Radica.... With Sonic 2 the UK edition works fine, but the Jap edition doesn't.
This game isn't region locked so the Jap version should work (at least in theory) and indeed it does work on his "real" mega-drive. After opening the carts he found that the two carts used different ROM chips (UK = Rev. A ROM, JAP = Rev. U ROM).
So is this a timing issue as you suggested Devster or is something else happening?

ya know, i said it was a timing problem, but i really didn't specify where XD, so i already forgot that theory, and what led me to say that =P. i think what i've said about timing is wrong
anyways, there are other reasons why it may not work
- is 5 volts being supplied to the cartridge vcc? if it is, make sure its not connected to the vcc originaly provided to the rom chip x.x, since i think the thing runs on 3v
- make sure wires are very short! this may be the main problem because i've experienced this even with the sega genesis 2 unit. i make a cartridge expansion cable, and if i made it really long, like longer than 3 inches, some games would not run
- make sure the unused pins are not floating, eg: WELOW, WEHIGH. it kinda sucks that you won't be able to save games using the radica. you don't need to worry about most of the pins, like AS or RESET
now, you've said something that 2 different regioned sonic games were tested, and one of them worked. i'd assume the programming is the mostly the same. what i'd do is check how much current one of the data lines sinks on each cartridge. it may give you some hints on why the roms are different
uhm, sorry for my grammer here, and the use of 2nd person =P, breathing solder is bad XD
