Highly inspired by this : 68000.web.fc2.com/bad_apple.htmlI decided to do my own version of this demo for the sega megadrive I initially wanted to proof it was possible to achieve full resolution video while keeping 30 FPS playback rate. After many effort i finally completed it. Youtube : www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vPe452cegU4 MB version : First partSecond part8 MB version (without bank switch) : CompleteNote that the 8 MB version can work only with Mega Everdrive or custom flash cart supporting full 8 MB mapping (without SSF2 bank switch style). Also some special emulator can support it as well (as this one). The good point is that it does work on real hardware exactly as on emulator Have fun !

So if I wanted to put this onto a real cart, I'd use SSF2, 2 4MB eproms, split the file, and go about it as normal with replacing the mask roms?

Nope that won't work SSF2 uses bank switch which is not the case of this demo. The code has to take care of that. The mega everdrive allow up to 10 MB direct mapped rom so the 8 MB version should work. What you can do is to put the 2 x 4 MB in each eproms but then you need to reset and change eprom mask to get to other part

Tested the 8MB version in my Mega-ED on a MD1 VA6, and works like a charm. I don't know why some people have troubles with their MD1 and the 10MB mapper on the Mega Everdrive (or probably I'm just lucky, I haven't tried the UMK3 hack yet). BTW, I'm pretty impressed of hearing the quality of audio that can be achieved trough a 8-bit DAC

Very glad to hear finally someone get the 8 MB version running on a MD1 I developed a specific Z80 driver which take care of not doing any 68k bus access during vblank (as i use a lot the DMA) so the PCM quality stay ok. Too bad i didn't had more rom space for the PCM (i used 4 bit ADPCM at 13 Khz), the quality could have be really better then ! Maybe i could try a 10 MB rom

......Wow! Let's just recap what I watched. Hmm... 1. Digital DAC music 2. FMV!!! amazing for the Megadrive! :\ now I'am starting to think that FMV is easy on megadrive It's not. If you notice, the ROM is 8 MB. Take the notion of FMV out of your head until you learn the limitations and understand how to program for the console. What Stef posted is very advanced, and only a handful of Genesis/Mega Drive developers would be able to reproduce this, if even that many. I can think of maybe 3 other people aside from Stef that would be able to do this (possibly 2 or 3 more that I don't know about), and even they'll tell you it's only useful as a demo. That is NOT FMV. Far from it.
