There is no forum category for this, so sorry if it does not go here.
I'm a painter/animator/pixel artist, with many years experience in all three. Very interested to collaborate with an experienced Sega Genesis programmer that needs assistance with art. Art or art test will be provided once you requested it while contacting me.
As for project concern, i will only do a very small project to start off with, and progressively build up to something retail level if interested. I'm very dedicated to my tasks, and work at a fast pace. (its okay if you work at a slower pace)
Any questions or concerns, you may post here or pm me.
Thanks for looking.
*Update* I will be taking sprite requests from all board members, so do join in the fun and post some ideas. Thanks
*Update2* Changed the title to something appropriate now.
*Update3* Finished the Besie sprite sheet.

This is not a direct request as you specified so I apologize in advance. If you're looking for some experience doing pixel art for color/resolution constrained systems I've got an idea for you: Create a Creative Commons (with Attribution) licensed sprite/tile collection for BasiEgaXorz developers. The community would offer you suggestions on themes and at your leisure (or a self-inflicted deadline) the art set could be submitted. Critiques and further suggestions would follow (not to mention thanks!.) A growing collection of ready-made sprites for Genesis devs means less outright copyright/lawyer infested sprite rips and more quality homebrews. Not to mention the fame and appreciation of a growing homebrew dev scene. You're not going to find experienced developers on a BASIC compiler forum but alot of creativity and heart. A project like this would keep your workload to bite-sized while spreading the impact of your work across a whole community instead of one developer. I hope you consider my proposal.

I figured it is going to take something like that theloon. Totally okay with the idea, and if you or anyone else have some suggestions for themes just go ahead and post them, and i will do some sprite samples for you guys. Heck, i might even get the moderator to create a board for us art folks. 8)
Here is the requirement; one sprite or tileset suggestion per post (so its fair to others) the style of the sprite (realistic, cartoony etc), the basic idea of the sprite (male soldier, female fighter, high tech aircraft etc) and your timeline turnaround. Once i acknowledge your post, i will reply with intentions to make it.
The sprites will be free to use for none commercial use, because you can honestly just contact me if you want something retail as i work with percentages.
So, if everything is cool, you guys can start posting. 8)

I'll bite Thanks for your consideration! The Genesis BASIC compiler BasiEgaXorz has a mascot of sorts: devster.monkeeh.com/sega/basiegaxorz/Style: Kid's Drawing. Slightly Chibi in my opinion like Top Shop www.youtube.com/watch?v=808lF9DxbWsIs it a gopher with a cane and top hat? Only Joseph Norman knows for sure.. The character sprites needed would be for a side-scrolling platformer (the developer of BasiEgaXorz loves platformers). Actions like jumping and climbing would be nice. The gentleman's cane and barber shop hat could be weapons. The sprite size can be anything between 8*8 and 32*32. Another consideration is that the screen is 320 x 224 pixels big usually. The Genesis allows 4 palettes of 16 colors. Assume that you've got 16 colors to work with for the player sprite sheet. One color out of that is set aside for transparency. The timeline is up to you. As this is the BasiEgaXorz mascot I'm sure it will be used for many demos, tutorials and side-scrollers to come.

"I'll bite Thanks for your consideration!" No problem. 8) "The Genesis BASIC compiler BasiEgaXorz has a mascot of sorts: devster.monkeeh.com/sega/basiegaxorz/Style: Kid's Drawing. Actually i haven't taken a closer look at the mascot until till now, and lols is that thing. It kinda looks like some pimp slime creature. "The character sprites needed would be for a side-scrolling platformer (the developer of BasiEgaXorz loves platformers). Actions like jumping and climbing would be nice. I'm making them 32x32, since 8x8 is way too tiny for any character platformer. As for the colors, i have the color dump swatches available to me, so i can pretty much choose what i want. "The timeline is up to you. As this is the BasiEgaXorz mascot I'm sure it will be used for many demos, tutorials and side-scrollers to come." That would be great if i can contribute towards tutorials for you guys. I'm a GameMaker user, and cannot wrap my mind around the complexity of programming languages. Shame, as i would like to see some sort of game maker made for retro consoles, specifically using simple scripting. Anywho, this is what i got so far. I colored in the idle animation fully, but i guess it would be quicker just to flat shade them for now, which lead me to do these other two animations (walk and jump) Working on the ladder, and from your input, what kind of or if any attack he would perform, lol. For the look style, getting them to look like a kids drawing is not going to cut it for the sprite sizes, and seeing the top shop video, they have more room to work with to do the crayon style, thick and thin outlines. Although i kept the colors light, so see if the fully colored or flat shaded one pulls off the look your after. I'm not sure if they will play or not in the forum post, so you will have to save them out to see the animation because it is in gif format. If its not playing after you save it, then let me know and i will make it an attached zip. I will provide a sprite sheet version after i finish them all. Thanks and keep them coming! 8)

Aperently it did not work. It might have been image shack, so i attached a zip version to extract. Just drag it into any browser to see animation after unzipping. 8) Attachments:

I was part of that once, but i did not like the game idea so i jumped ship. Although, you can check them out if you like. I did some of the concept stuff.

Alrighty. This will be the second to last basie sprite sheet. The last two rows are for an attack and death animation, which will complete the sheet soon. Then its done for a while, which means onto someone else. 8)

Hacked together in a couple of minutes .. just to see / test the sprite in motion. Haha, great. I like how you included a shadow with it (perfect vibe) Maybe you could delay the walk frames a little bit to match his speed. Also slower ascend and descend speed to see the jump animation.

When the walk animation is played at the same rate as idle / jump, I personally think it looks like he's "sliding" too much. See attached build ( jump physics are unchanged ). Attachments:

When the walk animation is played at the same rate as idle / jump, I personally think it looks like he's "sliding" too much. See attached build ( jump physics are unchanged ). I was debating if i should do a higher frame walk cycle, but your suggestion influenced my decision, so not only does he have an additional two frames, but now his feet rises a little higher to remove that sliding look. Basically it does meet Sonic's run frame count. 8) Just so everyone knows, i do listen to peoples opinions. Sharing ideas and suggestions is good! Here is the final version of the sheet, with the attack and death animation. Note that his death animation, is for a slow "I'mmm melllting!" feel, haha. Now if if anyone else want to take another shot, do post away. Or, message me if you want to collaborate on a small project. In the future i might revisit for version 2. Thanks. 8)
