this is legitimate news to post on these forums, but isn't related to the console development/programming theme of the website, so i won't be able to put it on the front page

all your < 1$ games yes, even the "poor" ones IF the cartridge itself isn't damaged I'm always looking for loose cart, manual, empty boxes at low price. but, as I said, shipping cost stops everytimes

I had another thought. I have about 150 carts that I couldn't get working in my console. Would these be of use to anyone? Not really sure why they don't work, but when I've opened them up the chip(s) and circuit board seem to be in good shape.

the contact pins are probably corroded. there are a few things you can do to fix the problem though.
1) get a pack of q-tips (sticks with cotton on the end of them) also grab a bottle of 90% isopropyl alcohol. get the end of the q-tip soaked with alcohol and swab the contact pins of the cart several times. if its really dirty, you should see alot of black stuff on the q-tip
2) i dont know if there are still any of these around, but get a sega cleaning cartridge and do the same alcohol method with it (or whatever the instructions say if you still have the original equipment) and plug-in and un-plug the cartridge several times to clean the pins in the genesis.
3) try the old nintendo trick of blowing in the genesis and in the cartridge (i have no idea why this actually works) then try to plug it in.
if those steps fail, then theres probably something wrong with the cart. it might have a broken lead from the connector somewhere or some of the chips in it may have been defective, and have since then failed.

I've done the q-tip trick and blowing out the dust thing a few times with these duds.
The console plays everything else just fine... Though it is an original Genesis (Got it for Xmas the year they were released), and I've never cleaned it. Running 1000 carts through it probably isn't upping the resale value...
I'll probably just swap out the nice looking carts and put in circuit boards of the same title that work. I was also going to try plugging just the circuit board into the console to see if seating it differently would help, but I'm not wild about getting popped by the caps on the circuit boards (I'm clumsy enough to do it too).
What if the previous owners had the cart swapping idea? Could putting an Acclaim circuit board in a Sega cart cause it to not seat correctly when put into the console, or are the tolerances pretty standard?
God forbid they all work fine and were just put into the cart backwards...

i've heard that some roms are starting to go through bit rot, which put cartridge games totally out of commision. some games with mask roms will live forever (notice there's a difference between just plain roms and mask roms) until the microorganisms start to eat their way to the silicon. the maximum life expectancy for these roms in plastic packages are 10 years. the ones that i've heard of that are starting to stop completely working are tengen games on the genesis. usually mask roms are for huge production runs, like sonic or earthworm jim
your carts could also be dirty too =P, or a solder joint has broken. i say that if these carts are broken, then they're probably crappy games that no one wants to play in the first place

There are way too many (yearly) sports games though. Games like Madden and Sega's NFL games usually go for nothing (25-50 cents), even in EB Games or Gamestop.
The rest of the collection looks good though.

, if there's any broken games, or crappy sports games you wanna get rid of, i'll be willing to buy them to rip them apart and make tiny sms games out of them that work on the genesis

oompa: I do have quite a lage number of Ms Pac-Man games (Tengen) that won't work for anything. Email me at the addy above and I'll send you an annotated cart list. I'm happy to sell the broken down carts for very little. Kaneda has dibs on first pick though We could also discuss terms on the crapload of Madden '94s and '95s if you'd like. I was just going to get some super-glue and make some modern art with them, or dropping them in the nearest dumpster. Slapping a shipping label on the box seems faster and easier, and more profitable pardon my complete ignorance, but... sms games? Term seems familiar, but I can't place it.

Now is the time, if you are still interested in the carts. In about a month I'll be selling off the entire lot of Genesis games as I'm going to start carrying RPG materials and will need a place to store them. I also have a broken Genesis if anyone would like to make an offer. I think it's just the power switch that's broken, but I haven't opened it up to find out for sure. www.geeksgames.com
