Well, the only modems that existed back in the day for the Sega Genesis were the X-Band modem, and the Sega Mega Modem. The X-Band was a 3rd party hardware accessory, which allowed certain games (mostly sports games) with code support for it to allow multiple Sega Genesi to connect to each other and have online play, using the old dial-up connection. Unfortunately, the modem was hard-coded to connect to an X-Band server in order to network the Genesi, and the service has long since been dead, meaning that the hardware is simply a brick today. There has been some talk online on the Sega-16 forums (search "XBand") on making hobby hardware that would replace the X-Band service, but no attempts have actually been finished yet.

It would be neat if someone could hack the modem and allow the Genesis to surf the web. The final result would probably be worse than using Netscape Navigator lol.

Oh man. If you could browse the net on the Genesis, it would be like browsing the net on Windows 3.1 with an EGA display lol!
